Main Task

January 13, 2009

My main task was completed. I tried to stick to my original plan as much as possible, but certain things from the script, when read aloud didn’t soundright. I edited these as much as I could to just as I wanted.

Please see enclosed disk to view my main task.

Planning and Research

Planning & Research

Task One

Gathering sound Bytes to express Mood

The first task was primarily a tutorial that firstly allowed us to understand how to use the software “Garageband” effectively. It also helped me to better understand how music can be a medium to express emotion and feeling.

Task Two

Outside broadcasts and their sound signals.

The second task was a good chance to get further acquainted with “Garageband”, it allowed us to get to grips with the depth of the programme and after completing the task we were suitably ready to prepare a much longer Media piece.

Task Three

Deconstructing Radio show jingles

The third task required me deconstruct a small number of radio jingles and analyse their content. This task was useful as it allowed me to understand the ways in which jingles reflect the music of the show, and what type of show it is, be it a specialist music show or a drive time or morning wake-up show. Each jingle reflected the content of the show. I found this especially useful as it helped me to plan what would I could appropriately use for my own radio jingle.

Task Four

Deconstructing a local and national news programme.

I found this research most helpful as I my news broadcast was supposed to be a ‘local’ broadcast. I was worried that my broadcast might end up sounding too similar to a national broadcast, so I felt it important to be able to differentiate between the two, and identify the key differences.

Task Five

Experimenting with interview styles and techniques

Task Five was a good chance for us to get some practice at making a longer radio broadcast. Also by experimenting with different interview styles, I was able to get a feel for what might need to be in a longer broadcast and I was able to get useful practice at making a longer show.

Task Six

Looking at different Radio websites .

I wanted to look at different Radio websites to find out what kind of language was used, what sort of style was used to present the page. I thought that the use of language here might be reflected in the stations show. I wanted to find out how colloquial the show was. This piece of research was very useful as it helped me understand how to speak when producing my own radio show.

Task Seven

Looking at Radio station Listings, and how the news changes throughout the day

This piece of research was useful as it allowed me to see how long a news bulletin needs to be. Using it I was able to plan how long my own show needed to be.

Preliminary Task

The preliminary task was was very useful in that it allowed me very useful practice in making a radio broadcast.

I felt that I accomplished the task very well, despite missing soem key factors such as a proper introduction. overall I found it very useful in planning my Overall main production
